The sun's coming up,
The start of another day is here.
I've not had one moment's peace,
To close tired eyes, mind and heart.
Catch a minute's worth of sleep.
Troubles weave their spell,
Keep me alert and aware.
My battle to defeat that elusive foe,
Conquer and squash it into silence,
Constantly slips beyond my grasping reach.
And yet, in my heart, I know what I need,
Frightened to ask, to be rejected.
There's only so much a heart can take,
Before defenses are drawn up,
Erected in to place.
He is miles away, sleeping dreamlessly,
With his thin lips and crooked nose.
His scent on the duvet and pillows,
His warmth beckoning me closer,
A temptation I cannot resist today.
Or the endless tomorrows that come my way.
In my mind, that's where I am,
Skin to skin, snuggled up behind him.
Legs tucked up, arm settled around his waist,
I press a kiss to his shoulder,
whisper "goodnight, sweet dreams."
Maybe now I'll sleep.
A littany of unspoken "I love you's" spinning through my mind.
I dream of my hand resting over his heart.
He's been holding mine since many yesterday's ago,
He will be for the endless tomorrows that come my way.
Moon xx
